Prompt:
A cruise gone wrong. Ship sinking to water, and no life boats available. You’re seconds from being submerged into freezing temperatures and harsh waves— but you see it in the corner of your eye.
There’s an island in the distance, and you may just be able to reach it. With no time to think, you run and leap off the failing boat. Icy water nearly floods your lungs, but only one thing is on your mind:
You need to survive.
Rules: Use this prompt description to write a story or poem based on its setting and plot details. Short Stories should be no more than 1500 words. You are allowed to write a poem. Please link your story to the thread in our subscriber chat when you’re finished.
Shout-outs for Last Week’s Prompt:

Going Home by
Strangely, it seems like Maryellen’s work is here every week. But I need more of you to participate to change that lol.
Anyway, her story being featured here though is definitely worth the pick (and read). Maryellen is an incredibly talented writer, and this piece is no exception. She often takes whatever I throw out (my prompts), and transforms them into hugely magical pieces.
This story about life, and coming to term with its end— and how nature plays a role into that is beautiful, and it’ll for sure leave you feeling emotional at the end. That’s all I can really say, you just need to experience it for yourself.
Thank you Maryellen for sharing this story and for participating in the prompt!
Closing out this week’s prompt with a poll:
Grab your harpoons and spears, it’s time for this week’s hunt. What will your choice of prey be for next week’s prompt? Tread carefully, lest you scare the critter away. We do need to eat, after all.
