Prompt: Portals to Nature.
The world has changed a lot since the end of the war.
Nature has reclaimed its land, with growths of plants consuming old buildings and structures. Once functioning powerlines now exist to accent the green and raving mother earth living all around it.
This place, which used to be called “home,” is only a shell of that thought.
And now you— one of the survivors from the war— have decided to come back to the planet for retirement. You’ve always said you wanted to die where you were born, and today mark’s the beginning of that destiny…
Well, until dark arrives.
Rules: Use this prompt description to write a story set on a post-apocalyptic earth reclaimed by nature. Short Stories should be no more than 1500 words. You are allowed to write a poem. Please link your story to the thread in our subscriber chat when you’re finished.
Shout-outs for Last Week’s Prompt:
As usual, each week I take a moment to shout-out some of the responses to last week’s prompt. And again, as a reminder, if you want yours to be eligible for a shout-out, you must post a link to it in our subscriber chat thread. Alrighty, let’s get on to those shout-outs!
The Boy Made of Air by… well, Me!
This one doesn’t really count count towards our shout-outs, but I wanted to give it a mention because it is really cool. If you ever read my The Midnight Collective mini-series, this is a prequel which follows Alex’s POV. It’s emotional and heart-wrenching, yet intriguing and as it help’s set up what The Midnight Collective is— and the struggle of wondering if your father really loves you.
’s Response
I’d like to say this story feels incredibly important to read. It’s about embracing your inner child— someone who get’s sort of lost and disconnected as you grow up. Maryellen writes beautifully, and I love how uplifting this story is. If you need something positive, yet impactful, definitely read Maryellen’s The Boy Made of Air.
Closing out this week’s prompt with a poll:
It’s time for you to grab your swimming goggles, pull up your shorts, and ready yourself to dive into this week’s poll. Like always, how you swim determines what inspires next week’s prompt. So swim towards your decision wisely.
My post tumbled out. Trees & me just....they are my friends. They win every time.
Thank you Hazel for the SO. I'm so happy you liked my Boy made of air.....💗💗💗💗
Ooh, a nature based prompt! I do like involving nature in a lot of my writing, so I might create something for this.
