Hello, and welcome back to our writing prompts. This week BookStack Presents: Your Literary Implications. A new name for our weekly prompt posts, and an invitation to new styles and focus.
Subtle messages. Nuanced implications. There’s a story hidden beneath the words printed on page. What is it telling us, and what do we take away from it? Truly, the ability to make one go back to search for each detail… This may be an art unlike any other.
So, ready for a challenge? The prompt rests below, waiting to see how you will respond. Write valiantly and push yourself forward— and if your piece can make me go back and study it more. You’ll earn yourself a shout-out. Where? it remains to be heard.
Prompt: The Half-Eaten Apples.
Description: It is Monday at the office, and you’ve arrived early to get a head-start on your tasks. You arrive, turn on the lights, and head over to the break-room to make yourself a cup of joe. There’s nothing out of the ordinary, or so it seems. It is only just after you sit down at your desk that the smell hits.
A rancid, rotten smell is wafting through the air and flooding your nostrils. Your nose curls up and your eye twitches in response. Sighing, you stand up from your desk knowing: Nothing is going to get done until that smell is gone.
Rules:
Do not refer to the half-eaten apples directly, instead only by indirect references and descriptions. For clarity: don’t refer to the apples as apples, instead imply it.
Reponses should be no more than 1500 words long.
After you have finished your response to the prompt, submit to our form to be eligible for a shout-out next week.
Bonus Challenges:
Use the half-eaten apples as a metaphor for the Office Building’s recent health-code violations.
Imply the actual reasoning your character is at the office before anyone else on their Monday.
Returning from our previous prompts is our weekly poll. Voting in these help determine the direction of next week’s prompt, so choose carefully. Though, you never truly know what’s going to be next, yeah? Anyway, thanks for being a part of this. See you next time!

So far, we’re almost 50% of the way there, but we’re still a long ways off. Regardless, thanks for reading and we’ll see you next time! <3
