Pride Month Picks #3: Gender Non-Conforming Highlights
Our third weekly post highlighting pride month picks. This issue focuses on books from Trans and Gender Non-Conforming authors.
Hey there everyone, welcome back for another Pride Month Picks. Last week we covered mainly bipoc indie authors, and this time we’re taking a focus to trans and gender non-conforming authors instead.
Like last time and the time before, I took a moment to explain what this is, so I’ll do the same again, but briefly once more. In this post we’ll cover five books from authors that you may have missed, or haven’t heard of. Let us know in the comments if any compelled you to read a new book.
Also, this edition covers a few more adult oriented books, so please look more into the book before reading or getting it for someone else— to make sure if it fits your vibes, or theirs. Let’s get started.
1. Take it Outside, Edited By Cash Torn and
If you like your anthologies queer and erotic, this collection of short stories from various authors may just be your cup of tea. And as quoted from their webpage: “Beautiful, raw stories to fuck you up and make you pay attention. This is your new favourite one-handed read. We promise.”
Ready for a good… or perhaps steaming hot time? Then you should definitely pick this one up for a night you’ll never forget. Trust me. You can’t see it, but I am absolutely winking right now.
2. Enthusiastically Me by
A story of self-discovery, and a tale detailing the ups and downs of making it through life— and perhaps, the struggle of transition. Normally we focus on creative writing, but sometimes a memoir is what’s needed instead.
“As the narrator navigates ups and downs of life, a conversation continues bringing more understanding of all the transitions he is going through, until one particularly monumental transition signals the perfect destination, which happens to be present the entire time.”
Discover Hazel Kreb’s incredible and deeply emotional, yet pressing and intriguing story based on her life— written and told in a way only she is able to convey. And perhaps through it, you’ll also understand what it means to find a life not only worth living, but living it enthusiastically.
3. Trying to Kill the Sun by T.F Author
“When atomic bombs flew back and forth forty years ago, superheroes were an unintended consequence.”
Fast forward to today, where T.F’s story follows Builder, a 23-year-old sidekick whose struggling to stay happy in his position. However, things take a turn when his identity is leaked with a list crimes poised against him. Now limited on options, he must either go with his boss’ overeager nemesis, or turn himself into the police.
In a story of navigating the gray area of heroism and villainy, will Builder be able to get his name cleared? There’s only one way for you to find out. Read Trying to Kill the Sun today.
4. Glowrot by Beatrice Lebrun
“What if Wonderland was a parasite that fed on your desires?” Discover the horrors of Glowrot— a queer psychological horror with a chaotic mixing of unhealthy obsessions, a found family gone wrong, and a deep, desperate search for someone who does not want to be found.
And as one reader says in their review:
“Glowrot is an excellent choice for readers of the bizarre, readers who enjoy unconventional story formats, fans of unreliable narrators, and those who enjoy exploring darker human impulses like obsession.”
Jump into Glowrot and discover the twisted and dark retelling of Alice in Wonderland yourself. Read on only if you dare (if you’re comfortable doing so, you can find the full list of trigger warnings here.)
5. Some Assembly Required by Noah Bodie
Juggling parenthood, work, and the scars of your past can be difficult. And that’s the situation Liam Parker has found himself in as a single father. However, things start to change after a chance encounter at a local cafe— where new love begins to fill the air.
“Sometimes all it takes is a little Mocha & Magic.” Some Assembly Required is a slice-of-life which invites you to feel what it means to discover second chances, a big sense of trans joy, and learning what happens when two opposites attract.
I for one, will be giving this a read. But what about you? Will you be among the first to read— nay, review it? Let me know!
Wow what great books we got to go through this time, huh? If you liked those, but are itching for some more, make sure to head over to our thread. While I wasn’t able to include every single author’s book in this post, there are still quite a few there in the thread to enjoy. See you next time everyone!
So thrilled to see the Incision Press anthology Take it Outside featured here.
