Indie Release Radar: October 1st Half
A look at new and upcoming releases, but with a slight change. Ready to hit that pre-order button?
Notes: This post is too long for standard email viewing, so part of it may be clipped. Please read it on web, or in the app instead. Also, this post contains amazon affiliate links, which earns us a small commission at no cost to the authors. Lastly, the post contains a special mention for a BookStack featured author, but more on that later.
It’s perhaps, the most scariest time of the year. The lead-up to Halloween is a big one, but many of us know its never out-of-fashion to embrace the gothic. And alongside it, a month full of ghastly reads just waiting to come out.
So welcome back everyone to another Indie Release Radar! You may have noticed the shift in title. So let me explain: To try and cover as many new releases possible, I’ve decided to split these posts into two issues per month.
This means we’re only covering the first half of releases in this edition, but you can expect an update on other haunting pre-orders in a few weeks. There’s a few books to go over today (not all are horror or supernatural, I promise), so let’s get into the docket.
1. In the Path of Jane Austen: Travel & Trails Anthology.
In the vein of celebrating Jane Austen, this anthology gathers prose from six authors paying homage to the late novelist— who is seen as a great pioneer in fiction. Come together in this whimsical “travelogue” to connect with each author’s story, designed for regency romance and fantasy lovers.
Profits of each copy sold will be going to a Jane Austen charity. So picking up this collection not only benefits your reading library, but supports charitable organizations as well. Intrigued? In the Path of Jane Austen arrives October 2nd. Hit that pre-order button to learn more!

Taking a break from our radar for a second, I just wanted to shout-out Lance S. Barron for his support of BookStack. You can find him and his book, Dark Goes the Stage in our Featured Authors and Featured Books sections respectively.
Lance is a talented writer who draws inspiration from his time as a seasonal cave guide for Mammoth Cave National Park. His book Dark Goes the Stage kicks off a wild sci-fi/mystery novel— where a former seasonal cave guide dreams that the park is in distress. What follows is the biological espionage mystery of a life-time.

4. Hanker Sore by Atanasia Mazzitelli
The second book in the Hidden Hearts Series rises to the occasion on October 7th. In this mature, dark mafia romance novel, you’ll be following Natalya Sokolova: a 25-year-old Russian with enough built-up anger, she could probably kill anyone with just her eyeliner.
However, and her 30-year-old Russian bodyguard best-friend, the two must band together to avenge not one, but three deaths caused by the late Irish mob boss, Cillian O’duinn and his father. Through love, darkness, and violence, can Natalya and Alexei Morozov stay off each other, or is everything destined to fall a part. Hit that pre-order button below if you’re intrigued.
5. The Darkest Glass by Olivia Danson

6. A Nest of Magic by Kate Moseman
That last radar pick was pretty dark, so how about something cozy? So let’s take things to a town where nothing ever happens, well… until now.
Corinthia doesn’t fall for mysterious strangers, nor does she go for long walks in the woods. And she definitely does not believe in magic. After all, she has her books, her rescued pup, and cabinet of chocolate. It’s everything she needs, and she’s all ready for a cozy night in-doors.
Until a bet between her and her best friend leads the two to a maze-like nature preserve behind the Shadow Ridge Library, and all she knew becomes challenged by the aforementioned stranger.
Corinthia may not believe in magic, but it believes in her, and it all unfolds on October 14th.
We have reached the end of the docket. But if you’re clamboring for more, don’t you worry. Like I mentioned earlier, another post will be coming for the second half of October. There is sure to be more scary in the air by then, so I hope you’ll stick around.
And thank you for reading all the way through this one. Did any of these stories speak out to you? Let me know which ones you plan to pick up in the comments. (I already have A Nest of Magic sitting in my pre-orders bucket, haha).
