BookStack Changes Update
A look at changes happening to our blog and catalog next month.
Getting to celebrate Pride with everyone this month as been a ton of fun. Though my own output has been far from perfect, I’m grateful for the many voices I’ve gotten to highlight and uplift during this time. But now it’s time for some updates.
During this post, I’ll cover changes to the Directory, as well as changes to our posting schedule here on the blog. Okay, ready? Let’s dive in.
Directory Updates
Featured Listings
The old:
Featured listings cost $5, and an additional $3 for a social media highlight.
Your book would be tagged and moved to the top of our book directory.
Featured listings were limited to 12 spots total.
So, what’s changed?
Featured listings will be split into four tiers:
30-Day Listing ($5): Get a book featured in our directory for 30 days, and is now limited to 6 spots rather than 12.
Monthly ($8/mo): Get up to two books featured in our directory. You can change out which ones are featured whenever you need. Good for as long as you’re subscribed. Unlimited spots on these.
Yearly ($75/yr): Get up to three books featured in our directory, which can be changed out at anytime, for as long as you’re subscribed. Unlimited spots on these.
BookStack Sponsor ($120/yr): Get all of your books featured in our directory, including future releases, for as long you’re subscribed. You’ll also get a special sponsor highlight on our homepage, too.
Our homepage is now the default space for featured listings. What this means is every time you visit the Directory’s homepage, you’ll see featured books front and center. New buttons have been added to navigate over to the All Books section of our directory.
Highlights will now be part of a new weekly post on our blog. These posts will cover what’s newly featured from the directory, as well as including some recent or upcoming book releases. It’s a new take on the Indie Release Radar, to some degree.
Why make these changes?
One main reason is for creating more value to those sponsoring us. My goal is to always keep as much as I can free, and upgrading your subscription, or picking up a one-time 30-day book feature really helps me out.
More money also not only means more opportunity for BookStack to grow and do new things, but it also helps me towards some of my personal goals:
Survive — that’s very important.
Save up money for when my partner and I eventually move to Germany.
And hopefully idk, get a new computer.
Other Changes
Our Website has gotten a new look. Cleaner and rebuilt for ease of access.
The Author Profiles section of our directory is being removed. Understandably this might upset many as it’s normally been required to fill one out before getting your books listed. However, I’ve come to realize that I do not have the energy to do upkeep for this section — taking care of duplicates, updating the listings anytime someone releases a new book, etc… However, our listing forms will be updated to reflect this change.
Design Changes. Pretty self-explanatory, just updating the website to look better and feel smoother.
Blog Updates
Since we’re wrapping things up for Pride Month, we’ll be going into a different cadence with our posting schedule. Here’s what you can expect:
Author Spotlights: Remains unchanged. Will continue to go up on Mondays at 9:30am PST.
Guest Posts/Essays: These will start going up on Wednesdays & Sundays at 9:30am PST, and this category is an umbrella for guest posts such as: reviews, essays, stories, and poems. And also functions as a day for my own essays and reviews to go up too.
New on BookStack: A weekly newsletter sharing what’s newly featured in our directory, along with some upcoming releases and ARCs. These will be going up on Fridays at 9:30am PST.
Yeah, this section is a bit smaller because there’s not as much to elaborate on. Important stuff overall though, however let me know what you think of these changes! Buh-bye for now everyone, and yeah, sorry for emailing twice in one day ;w;
